Public Interest Litigation

The concept of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is in consonance with the principles enshrined in Article 39A of the Constitution of India to protect and deliver prompt social justice with the help of law.

Public interest litigation (in India) is the use of the law to advance human rights and equality or raise issues of broad public concern. It helps advance the cause of minority or disadvantaged groups or individuals. Public interest cases may arise from both public and private law matters. The aim of PIL is to give to the common people and also to articulate border social cases access to the courts to obtain legal redress. PIL is an important instrument of social change and for maintaining the Rule of law and accelerating the balance between law and justice.

FSA has filed and working on PIL in High Court of Andhra Pradesh on making the Chief Ministers Office responsive and responsible on the decisions taken. The PIL is pending in disposal at AP High Court.

Similarly, another PIL was filed regarding the opaque manner in which contract was awarded to Singapore consortium for Amaravati project. Due to the consistent pressure, brought in by the organisation, the subsequent govt. has cancelled the tender and accordingly PIL was disposed of by the high court since the prayer of FSA was conceded by the Government.
